Where we played
Where we played rekindles memories just as much as what we played.
We played mainly in the street or in the tenfoot or 'tenny'. The older kids could venture off across the road, but you could get yourself a good hiding from your dad if you were caught wandering off after them.
Many a time I've returned home thinking nobody had noticed only to hear a friends mum say, "wait while you get home - your mum's been looking for you everywhere!"
There were risky places to go and play - places you shouldn't go. We never did any physical damage to anyone's property - nothing malicious... Just mischievous!
Whether it was the local drain, a school yard, work yard or an orchard to sneak into, there was always a place you knew you really shouldn't go. All part of the excitement and dare - or double dare.
